Proclaiming Christ

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves. (2 Cor. 4:7)

We are a family of churches on mission, serving together to further the gospel. We want to start a big conversation about being on mission. And one key part of that conversation is that we have a conversation about the gospel. We must proclaim Christ in our churches, neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and homes. We must not be ashamed of the gospel (Rom. 1:16), knowing that it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

You probably have questions about what it looks like for us to proclaim Christ. So do we. We are asking, “When was the last time any one of us spoke the gospel of Christ with someone? If we believe the gospel of Christ, then why are we reluctant to proclaim Christ? What barriers are there? How can we urge those of us in our churches to proclaim Christ with joyful consistency?”

As we move ahead in this vital area of being on mission, we offer this idea: We proclaim the glory of God in Christ. We don’t want to be peddlers of God’s word, but as from sincerity, as from God, we desire to speak in Christ (2 Cor. 2:17) in the sight of God for the glory of God. “For God, who said, ‘Light shall shine out of darkness,’ is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” (2 Cor. 4:6)

By His grace, God has shone in our hearts. He has given us the light of the knowledge of His glory in Christ. And so, we will determine to proclaim the glory of God in Christ. Why? We want to saturate our region with the gospel.

Therefore, our churches will find creative and productive ways to work together as we advance the gospel. Also, our network of churches will, as opportunities arise, partner with our Nevada Baptist Convention and our Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board (IMB) and North American Mission Board (NAMB) to further the gospel in our region and beyond.

In the days ahead, may the Lord guide our steps. And may He guide our conversation together. Please send us your thoughts at sierrabaptistassocation@gmail.com
